Frequently Asked Questions
Emmaus Village
  • Our group is not faith-based, can we hire the Emmaus Village?

Yes. The Emmaus Youth Village may be hired by non-faith-based groups. The Emmaus Village has facilities that cater for different occasions and events such as study weekends (or weekdays), meetings, 'pit stop' for cyclists or a base to visit  famous landmarks and attractions in the north-east.

  • Can I book a room for 1 guest at the Emmaus Village?

  • Does it cost more if we want YMT to provide us with a faith-based programme?

  • Are there self-catering facilities in the accommodation?

The kitchen facilities provided in each chalet provide a kettle, fridge, microwave and a toaster which may be used for light snacks. All meals are provided at the dining room and are included in the price. We do not have self-catering facilities.

  • Can you provide special diets for guests?

If you have allergies or special dietary requirements please let us know in advance and we will endeavour to cater for them.

Gap Year Programme
  • How can I apply for a place in the Gap Year Programme?

  • Do you accept applicants from outside the United Kingdom?

YMT can receive a number of applicants from outside the UK to come and be part of our Gap Year Team. However, we encourage you to signify your interest early as places are limited and the process takes longer. The Gap Year Programme usually starts at the end of August each year.

  • Is there a fee to join the Gap Year Programme?

There is no fee to join the YMT Gap Year Programme. However, the applicant is expected to pay for their own travel, visas, medical or qualification tests which may be required. Gap Year Team members are provided with full board and accommodation at the Emmaus Youth Village and a small monthly allowance.

  • Can I do my work experience with YMT?

Your visit
  • I left my onesie at the Emmaus Village, can I have it back?

The Youth Ministry Trust cannot be held liable for any personal property left behind during the stay at the Emmaus Village. Any valuable items left behind are collected by domestic staff and handed in to the reception. However, we do not have a space for lost and found items. Please let us know immediately if you think you left something behind at the Emmaus Village and arrange with us how you can retrieve your items. Otherwise, these may be thrown away or donated to appropriate charities.

So, if you really want that dinosaur onesie back let us know as soon as possible because once they're gone, they're gone.

  • Do Ant & Dec live at the Emmaus Village?

Ant and Dec officially opened the Emmaus Village a few years ago and have remained long-time supporters and friends; however, they don't live here. They have their own house, sorry.

  • What is 'Emmaus'?

When choosing a name, it was felt that the Emmaus story (Luke 24: 13-32) is a very appropriate piece of scripture to reflect the mission and ethos of the Village: 'While they were talking and discussing, Jesus himself came near and began walking with them….They said to each other,’ It felt like a fire burning within us when Jesus talked to us on the road.’

  • Can I bring my pets to the Emmaus Village?

Sorry we are unable to accept pets except Guide and Hearing Dogs.

Support us
  • How can I support the work of YMT?

Be a prayer partner - Please pray for the young people of our diocese and those who work with them. We invite you to pray especially for the young people in your deanery and in your local schools.

Be updated - We invite you to keep in touch with the work of the youth service by signing up on our website to our electronic newsletter. You can also be updated by reading our monthly page in the Northern Cross.

Be a co-worker - We support youth ministry at local level in a variety of ways and would like to continue to expand this. Youth ministry in parishes and deaneries is essential to the support of young people. We invite you to work with us in partnership.

Give a financial gift - We recognise that we live in difficult financial times and are indebted to those who share their financial resources to secure the work of YMT.  This could be in the form of a regular donation, a legacy or a one-time gift.

  • Can I volunteer my time with YMT or at the Emmaus Village?

We welcome adults and young people helping out in our activities throughout the year. Please let us know your interests and availability and a member of our staff will contact you.

We love to hear from you.

Please feel free to leave us a message and we'll get back to you as soon as possible.
